Monday marks the beginning of Black Restaurant Week in Milwaukee, as some businesses continue to face financial challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sam's Place Jazz Cafe opened its doors a month ago and is one of the participating restaurants during Black Restaurant Week."I think it’s important for our community to feature these restaurants, locally owned, that have been operating throughout even the pandemic," said Sam Belton, owner of Sam's Place Jazz Cafe."Good food, wholesome food. You sit down, you laugh, you talk. It brings people together," said owner of Big Daddy's BBQ and Soulfood Restaurant, Donald Lee, who told WISN 12 food is a way to unite people. For the sixth year in a row, BlankSpace MKE is celebrating local Black-owned businesses, with 21 participating restaurants.
Sam's Place Jazz Cafe opened its doors a month ago and is one of the participating restaurants during Black Restaurant Week.
"I think it’s important for our community to feature these restaurants, locally owned, that have been operating throughout even the pandemic," said Sam Belton, owner of Sam's Place Jazz Cafe.
